| Thunder Over Louisville!
4/23/06 |
This year marked the 17th Annual "Thunder Over Louisville" event, which is the kick-off for the Kentucky Derby Celebration. The fireworks display, put on by Zambelli's, is the largest in North America! Special thanks to Mike H. and Calvin H., who set us up with one of the best spots in Louisville! We were just beyond the I-65 bridge, looking across the river at the record crowd of over half a million people. The city of Jeffersonville, IN, issued about 20 permits in the restricted section of the river, and we were there! We were close enough to the fireworks to get covered with burnt embers. There were a few that were not so burnt, but it was well worth it! We had clear skies and temperatures in the mid 70's with a nice breeze from the west. The day started with a long, slow boat ride in foggy conditions, followed by "How much time until the fireworks start? 10 hours?" After the Blue Angels kicked off the airshow, we watched airplanes until 9pm. We got back to the marina a little after 12:30am, and were wondering how the day went so fast. A great time was had by all!
